Library director David Shaffer, who took on the job in November,' said, “I appreciate them all. They are the backbone of the library.”
In fact he is thrilled with how supportive this community is of its public library. Besides having nearly 20 regular volunteers, the library also benefits from donations of books and money. Mr. Shaffer goes through the books to select those that will go into the collection. Others are sold in the semi-annual sales sponsored by the Friends of the Rappahannock Library. That volunteer organization also solicits funds for the library.
On a recent Friday morning three volunteers were working in the library. Doreen Wootton was working behind the desk. She and her husband James volunteer together.
