Rappahannock Newt Staff Writer , The average patron entering the library believes the person behind the desk is the librarian. In Rappahannock County that person is likely to be a library volunteer.
Many organizations in Rappahannock County run on volunteer power, but none more so than the public library.
The library is open, when the weather permits, 48 hours a week. Except for a few of those hours volunteers “man” the desk, They check books in and out, answer research questions or find out where to go for answers, and, in between busy spells, shelve books.
Other volunteers prepare new books for circulation or repair books. They help prepare reports, and because many are long-time residents, they also answer questions about the county.
