Huntly Dumpster Jackson District supervisor Ron Frazier’s distress in seeing tires and large appliances in the smoldering mess at the landfill Saturday is understandable. He is probably quite right that these come from ;the Huntly and Scrabble dumpsters. But his suggestion that the solution is to close the Huntly dumpster and put a temporary fence around the one at Scrabble is no solution at all. At the Planning Commission’s meeting at Sperryville last week, Wakefield District representative Hubert S. Gilkey III admitted that unfortunately some people in Chester Gap continue to throw their trash in the headwaters of the Rappahannock River rather than taki ing it to Huntly. If the only place to take trash was Amissville many • more people would use the roadsides as dumps. The more legal places there are to take trash, the less problem the county will have with illegal dumping. At a bare minimum a centralized location must be found before any dumpster sites are closed.
