Police have a special cellular number, Star-DUI (*384) throughout the state except in Northern Virginia. Those calling this number should be prepared to give their location, direction of travel, description of the suspect vehicle and license number and the reason for their suspicion.
• In Northern Virginia, Pound77 (#77) is the cellular number State Police operate for reporting non-emergency situations and to obtain assistance from the State Police. Those calling this number should be prepared to give their location, direction of travel, description of any suspect vehicle and license number and the reason for their suspicion. Currently #77 operates in the city of Arlington and in Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties. -
• To report auto theft conspiracies or chop shops, the State Police operate a hotline in conjunction with the Help Eliminate Auto Theft program, that number in 1800-947-HEAT (4328). An auto theft in progress should be reported by using 911.
• State Police also operate a hotline to receive drug-related information, (800) 553-DOPE (3673). A drug deal in progress should be reported by using 911.
• To report suspected illegal firearms activity, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms hotline number is (800) ATF-GUNS (283-4867). A crime in progress with the use of a firearms should be considered an emergency and callers should use 911.
