Disgusting

To the Editor:

Reading your editorial last week was disgusting.

Those VDOT men gave their all to their job and to the community so this county could get back to normal after the blizzard.

People who haven’t sat under a wheel of a truck or on a piece of equipment for 24 hours straight driving through a blinding snow storm, sleet, rain and wind really shouldn’t complain.

After all VDOT workers don’t get the luxury of going home to sit down to a hot dinner, warm bed, cut on the T.V. news to watch all blizzard reports. They just keep going, grab a cold sandwich, bag of chips and a drink, eat that going along plenty of times. When their shift is up they go home if they are lucky enough to get there, grab a few hours of sleep and go again for 24 hours.

People don’t seem to realize their road is not the only one in the county to push. There are approximately 300 miles to push. There are only 21 road workers working for VDOT. There are 15 pieces of equipment for snow removal. There has to be a first road to push and someone has to be last. I guess they will have to figure out who is most important, you or your neighbor.

Some of these workers stayed beyond their shifts watching out for icy spots.

My husband personally waded through snow drifts up to his waist to get to work to help to get roads open and people out. I really didn’t hear of any other workers being so dedicated to get to work. They just shut down probably, including your office.

Also don’t let us forget our contracted workers and their equipment who worked with VDOT.

You see all of their hard work and devotion wasn’t enough for people; they expect and want more.

1 think what most people can’t accept is Mother Nature can still bring us down to a slow crawl or a complete stop. Maybe it’s to show us we are living at a too fast pace in life.
