Observing the wonders of the natural world led to a deep appreciation of the marvels of the universe and of God’s plan for his world. This led to studies in geology at Arizona State University for two years, advancing to studies at Catholic University with emphasis on psychology and Christian Doctrine.
During World War II Mr. Carrigan served as a Field Director for the American Red Cross in Italy, where he met Padre Pio, a monk whose extraordinary spiritual gifts included the stigmata, (i.e. the wounds that Christ bore on his hands, feet and side).
Mr. Carrigan introduced many of the American troops in Italy to this priest, and after the war made Padre Pio known to the Western world in many ways. His efforts contributed to the beatification of Padre Pio by Pope John Paul II on May 2, 1999, in Rome, an event which Mr. Carrigan was able to attend.
Upon his return from WWII Mr. Carrigan became a successful developer of commercial and industrial properties in the DC area. Since 1959
