Mr. Carrigan and his beloved wife Ramona, who died in 1989, have owned “Avon Hall” and soon began to share the grounds with the wider community on each Fourth of July with picnicking, games, and fireworks; one dry summer he shared the water in his pond with the town.
Over the years the Carrigans have made many significant donations to numerous secular and Catholic causes. This year, the 38th consecutive year of hosting the Fourth of July festivities, Mr. Carrigan made a magnificent gift to the entire community, thus ensuring that the Washington School would continue to serve the needs of Rappahannock children, seniors and others.
The Board of the Child Care and Learning Center has hired Monroe & Crocker to do a building assessment prior to developing a plan for renovation.
At present the Board intends to continue to work with the current tenants, in keeping with their mission of “improving file quality of children’s lives by providing enriching and nurturing programs”.
