Pastor and Mrs. Jon Heddleston of Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church in Sperryville led a group of ten youths and four adults on a Missionary trip to Smyrna, Tenn. The group left on Sunday, June 27 and returned Saturday, July 3.
They began their journey in the little white church bus, a 1972 International bus, with a prayer. The first night the group stayed in Bristol, Tenn. at a campground called KOA Kampground. The next day, they arrived in Smyrna and stayed at the Wherry Housing Development.
The group awoke early Tuesday morning, ready to begin working. They started their day by scraping and painting a house. That evening, the group served food at a homeless shelter. “It was a wonderful experience,” said Sarah Langelle of Castleton.
Later in the evening, they toured some of Nashville and ate at the NASCAR Cafe. Joe Langelle of Castleton said “It was the best time of my life. I loved it.”
On Wednesday, the group began the day picking up kids on the neighborhood bus and getting ready for vacation bible school. “It was a tiring but fun experience,” laughs Brian Johnston from Boston. They made puppets, sang songs, tossed water balloons and told stories. That evening,
