Over the past few months, Mountain Voices has presented stories and poems from local folk. This month, I would like to lend my voice again to the subject I find most compelling, the preservation of Rappahannock County, j Some say that relative newcomers like me have no business involving themselves in affairs of the county, especially when they do not own sizable chunks of this Eden. I isay that it takes all of us, the old county families, the new kids on the block, the large landowners, the townspeople, the farmers, the business owners, the commuters, the carpenters and stone masons, the weekenders, the hikers and bikers, to protect and preserve what has to be one of the most beautiful and livable spots on the face of this planet.
I say that we newer folk have a lot of work to do to catch up to those of you who ,are but the current representatives of the families that have successfully stewarded .this land for generations upon generations. That we have to apply what expertise and energies we have to ensure that, with the cooperation and blessing of the old families, the county remains as it has, and can be passed to the next generation and the next without blemish.
