What hope? For one, the Rappahannock County Conservation Alliance (RCCA). It, the brainchild of Bayard Catron, has concluded efforts on defining its mission, and will soon select a Board to direct it toward fulfilling mission objectives. The mission of the RCCA: to preserve our county as a scenic rural community.
Simply stated, inclusive, and, hopefully, achievable. This group, consisting of a broad-based and representative mix of community members, will work, in cooperation with all other community organizations and individuals, to help define Rappahannock County’s preservation objectives, will seek solutions among the many options available through local, Commonwealth, Federal, and private programs, and will inform the community of those options and help facilitate the implementation of any options selected.
The RCCA will be but a tool to help ensure that the Rappahannock’s self-view remains the reality of the county, unbent by the pressures for change from without.
I owe Rappahannock County for the unflagging pleasures of living here. I owe those whose efforts and wisdom maintained this place so that I could return and have the honor of working to carry on, to what ever extent I am capable, the task of preservation.
