Calling Varsity basketball girls
All Varsity basketball girls who are going to play for the upcoming year should note that conditioning drills will begin on Aug. 2 and run through Aug. 5 from 6 to 8 each evening. For more information or anyone with questions contact Coach Luther Stanley at 987-8277.
Band Boosters to meet
The Rappahannock County Band Boosters will meet Thursday, July 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rappahannock Elementary School Library. Everyone is invited. There will be slides of the summer camp program attended by the students. For more information call John Wiese at 937-9909.
Dwyer family reunion set
The ninth annual Dwyer family reunion will be held on July 17 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Washington fire hall in Washington. “We’re expecting a real Irishman this year!! Come to meet your distant cousin from the Emerald Isle,” said an organizer.
Art Camp planned
Young people ages 5-12 are invited to attend the fifth annual Art Camp with Laurie Marshall at the Rappahannock Recreation Center Aug. 2-6 from 9:30 a.m. to 12. The cost is $45, which includes most materials. Scholarships are available. Call 675-3267 to register bv July 16.
Flint Hill plans carnival
The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Squad will sponsor its annual carnival July 21-24 at the carnival grounds. Five Star Amusements is again providing rides and concessions and have added two new rides this year. The community at large is encouraged to support this event.
Field Day planned
An Agricultural Conservation Field Day will be held Friday, July 16 from 9 a.m. until 2:15 p.m. The field day will be held at Ashland Farm, Gregory and Kenneth Smith, located on Route 3, East of Culpeper.
A number of working examples of soil and water conservation practices in place on this farm will be used during discussions on Stream Corridors, Livestock and Water, Cropping Systems and Agricultural Regulations. For more information contact the Farm Service Agency at 825-4200.

Sunday, Aug. 1: “Blue Ridge to the Bay “ Speaker Series “Terrestrial and Streamside Salamander Monitoring in Shenandoah National Park” with Robin Jung and staff from Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Library (off US 211 near Washington, phone, 675-3780).
Saturday, Aug. 14: “Second Saturday Hike Series” to trails in Shenandoah National Park (SNP) adjacent to headwaters of Rappahannock River Watershed tributaries. Meet at Mountainside Market on US 211 west of Sperryville between 8-8:30 a.m. and carpool to trail head, return mid-afternoon. Bring food for self and clothing according to weather of dby. Destination: Nicholson Hollow Trail on Hughes River.
