BY JOHN WIESE Rappahannock News Contributing Writer As if the beauty of our mountains, streams and abundant wildlife weren’t enough, we in Rappahannock are further blessed by the beauty of our young people and their many musical talents. We are small in population, but we are huge in the accomplishments of our Band and Chorus programs. Parents take note: playing an instrument has been proven to enhance a child’s development academically, as much as 62 points on the SAT exams! Learning to play an instrument builds self-esteem, expands horizons, and contributes to the life-long appreciation of music and the arts. Since my child is in Band, my involvement is naturally with the Band Boosters and my article will focus on the Band program. Of the Chorus I can only say: Get your Madigral tickets early before they run out! This is a performance not to be missed. Now back to Band. Our 130 plus band students did a lot this year, 'ncluding: • Marched in the Woodvule parade. • Earned 50 plus medals at District competition.
• Field trip to the Kennedy Center for “Tuba Christmas.” • Performed winter and spring concerts. • Bowling in Front Royal. • Participated in Tri-County band in Fauquier. • Won first place in division at Williamsburg Festival followed by fun at Busch Gardens and the Renaissance Fair. • Played at Cancer Relay for Life. • Field trip to Iwo Jima to see Marine Drum & Bugle Corps, • Marched in Sperryville parade. • Skating party in Culpeper. • Performed with the Chorus at the Madigral dinner.
