and Mrs. Earl J. Kilby of Sperryville, has recently reported for duty on the house staff of the Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, Ga. After his hospital training he expects to establish a practice in pediatrics or general medicine in Virginia. Miss Kaye Johnston and Mrs. Jimmy Wayland supervise a group of pre-school children who are attending summer school at Rappahannock County Elementary School for three weeks. There are 94 students enrolled in the program which provides opportunities for association with other youngsters outside of the home and prepares them for entrance into the first grade in the fall.

Canoe rides on Avon Lake were a feature of the Independence Day program in Rappahannock. The tranquil lake also offered a cooling dip for some who chose to swim. A check for $1,000 was donated by Mrs. W.R. Shaw of McLean to the Rappahannock Recreation Association at the Flea Market in Washington on the Fourth of July. Mrs. Shaw said she hoped the money would be used to help provide needed recreation facilities at the proposed Youth Center. Roger Cordani of Amissville, who is employed with the Prince William Fire Service, was commended for heroic service this week by that county. He is a dispatcher for the fire service and when he received an emergency call from a baby sitter
