Stonewall-Hawthorne District Supervisor Bob Anderson questioned how much geothermal heat would cost, as the plan calls for using this type of heating system. Representatives from the architectural firm stated that the system would cost approximately three dollars more per square foot as opposed to a conventional system.
They added, however, that such systems are simple to service and that the site is ideal for geothermal heating. They also noted that the school should see a cost savings with this system over the next three to seven years.
The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to authorize an additional appropriation of $129,664 to the School Board from the General Fund for replacement of the roof. The School Board responded by voting unanimously to amend the contract for the high school addition to include the roof.
The Supervisors will address the additional needed funds, the architect’s fee and testing fee, at their October meeting. They also decided to address the issue of contingency funds if and when such funds are needed.
