The Rappahannock County School Board and Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors held a special joint meeting on Aug. 25 to make some decisions on funding for the high school addition and ball field construction. The Board of Supervisors also gave approval for replacement of a section of roof at the high school.
High School addition
School Board Chair Dr. John Tble reported to both boards that the bids received for the high school addition alone exceeded the three million dollar bond approved last November.
The bid that was accepted, which was one of the lower bids, came in at $3,038,300. In addition, there is an architect’s fee of approximately $63,000 and a $20,000 testing fee. The school board also had a five percent contingency fund figured in, which comes to roughly $157,000. These figures pushed the total bill to $3,279,626.33.
The School Board is also asking for an additional $129,664 to replace the butterfly roof on the front section of the high school.
Dr. Ible noted that there is a significant gap between what was hoped for and what was possible. “We didn't get everything we hoped for with the three million,* said Tble. He notified everyone that the existing balance on the bond is a little over 2.9 million dollars as of Aug. 1. The School Board
