agree with tearing it down just for a parking lot. Board Chairman Ed Barton commented that he thinks the proposal follows general guidelines as laid out in town codes.
Donna Kevis asked if the plans could be revised to keep the back section of the Mercantile Building. Representatives from William McDonough and Partners, the architectural firm representing Sunnyside Farms, responded that to do so would require major modifications. Tanya Richey said that she sees this as a natural progression, in line with the village concept, and added that the good outweighs the bad in this instance.
Despite Kramer’s objections, the board voted unanimously to approve the modifications to the Mercantile Building.
Other demolition
The board also had to deal with the proposed demolition of additions to the summer house beside the Clopton House and behind the Mercantile Building. The architects are proposing to preserve the smokehouse and summer kitchen but tear down the other buildings.
