Katzen from last
week
Ms. Gorfein started by covering Katzen’s response to her speech the previous week at Warren ton Middle School. At that event, she discussed Katzen’s record on guns and schools. She criticized Katzen for opposing further tightening the ban on guns in schools, and for his support of an amendment allowing students to keep firearms in their vehicles during hunting season.
Katzen had responded by saying that he favors local controls. Ms. Gorfein’s response was to point out that Virginia is A “Dillon” state, meaning that localities cannot oppose what the State Legislature does in matters of guns.
Katzen also commented that he is looking to protect people’s gun rights under the second amendment. “He should be more interested in protecting our children,” said Ms., Gorfein.
Ms. Gorfein had also critij cized Katzen for sponsoring legislation to repeal the one handgun per month limit. She mentioned that Katzen said he v^on’t support any such legislation in the future. This week’s “lesson”
