Construction
It's nice to see people work together,
for a change.
Last week, the Board of Supervisors and School
Board met on the subject of extra money for the
high school addition and construction of the new ball fields. And while many people tend to think that too much money is being spent on education, none of those at the meeting seemed to object to spending ' extra money for replacing the roof on the front section of the high school. And the supervisors did agree to take up the issue of needed extra money for the addition later on.
It was refreshing to see the two bodies cooperate, rather than watching Dr. David Gangel have to defend the School Board’s actions or listen to a supervisor complain about how much money is being spent on the schools. Sure, we all want the county to be fiscally responsible and keep taxes as low as possible. But let’s face it: The high school is in need of repair.
And while the ball fields may not seem important to some, and are taking a back seat to the buildings at this point, anyone who has watched the baseball, softball or soccer teams play at the high school are aware of how much new fields are needed. And let’s not forget the track team, who doesn’t even have a real track to run on.
There’s no reason why we can’t be fiscally responsible, yet still give the students in this county decent facilities in which to compete both academically and in athletics.
