With the start of the season right around the corner, both the JV and varsity girls basketball coaches at Rappahannock High School expect their teams to be competitive and win some games. Numbers have proven to be a problem, but in completely different ways for each team.
Panthers look to
rebuild
Varsity Coach Luther Stanley is having to do a bit of rebuilding this season. The varsity squad lost five players from last years team. As of last week, they have eight players on their roster - six of which are returning from last season. Stanley may take two players from the JV squad for a little more depth.
Despite the numbers, Stanley expects the varsity team to have a good season. He has been., pleased with their desire, hustle and work ethic. Stanley commented that these young ladies are giving 110 percent in practice, adding “they’re trying to prove a point that they can win games.”
Coach Stanley is looking for seniors Katey Wilson, Meghan Fairbrother, Rebecca Metcalf and Rebecca Letsen to lead the team. However, he is hoping for contributions from everyone.
