Katzen also pointed out that the legislature has funded 1000 new teachers, and that Republican attempts to fund an additional 3000 were blocked by the Democrats. In addition, he noted that the Democrats had eliminated $5.5 million for early reading programs, which Governor Gilmore has reinstated. In addition, $510 million has been put into SOQs.
