Our thoughts are for our special friend and neighbor John
Marshall Clark.
John Marshall was a part of Gid Brown Hollow long before we came here. He told us wonderful stories of the apple orchards, of the people, and of the land. Now only a few apple trees remain, but each conversation and shared experience with John Marshall is alive and will be forever treasured in our hearts. He was a strong, wise farmer and knew more about farm life than anyone we know.
For the past two summers, my daughter Lucy and I had the great experience of going berry picking with him. Off in his pick-up to the back fields we rode to the largest blackberry bushes I have ever seen. This year, Lucy and I rested after an hour or so of picking and sat in the back of his red truck waiting for him as he moved on through every last bush.
When he was done, he wouldn’t take a single berry for himself, sending all of them home with us. And on Monday, Aug. 16, he brought over two more boxes of beautiful berries and a
