1899-1999

Sept. 23, 1999 represents the 100th anniversary of the unveiling of the Mosby Monument in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Front Royal. The Warren Rifles Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, successor of the Memorial Association, and the Col. John S. Mosby Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, successor of the United Confederate Veterans, will co-host this centennial of the unveiling. The date for this event will be Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999. . The reason for this change is to make it convenient for those who wish to attend. The ceremony will begin at Prospect Hill Cemetery around the Mosby Monument, starting at 11a.m.

The guest speaker will be ! Mr. Horace Mewborn, author of 43rd Battalion Virginia Cavalry Mosby’s Command, The Virginia Regimental Histories Series.

The Tuscarora Brass Band will provide authentic music of the period before and after the ! ceremonies.

There will be many distinguished guests, including descendants of the men who were executed in Front Royal on Sept. 23, 1864. After the ceremonies we will proceed to the Warren Rifles Confederate ; Museum for refreshments and entertainment. This unique ! museum will be opened for all to explore with no admission fee. Transportation will be provided from the public parking lot, near the museum, to [the cemetery before the cere; mony and back to the museum ■ after the ceremony.
