After a call last month by Mayor Stew Willis for them to return or resign, Washington Town Council members Steve Critzer, who has absented himself from Council affairs since April, and Charlie Tompkins, who has been away from the Council since July, returned for the Council's October meeting. Both councilmen left because of Council actions on the wastewater issue that were contrary to their beliefs, and both returned apparently to renew their struggle to resolve the Town's wastewater problem as they deem appropriate.
The seven person Council has generally voted with four opposed to wastewater solutions promoted by the now defunct Wastewater Study Committee that had been chaired by Mr. Tompkins, and the return of Mr. Critzer and Mr. Tompkins should, at least, provide some level of challenge to the current Council's majority opinion.
