In a statement at the close of the October meeting's open session, Mr. Tompkins attacked the Council's action in July that dissolved the Wastewater Study Committee, and the Mayor’s assertion that wastewater-related work could be performed by the Council itself.
Mr. Tompkins said that "the notion that Council will now take over the work is short sighted. The council does not have enough time left in their term to do anything significant. The current majority on the council is composed of the mayor, who has completely changed direction after participating in all the unanimous votes on the committee, and three other members who have not had the benefit or interest to attend the previous four years of work, preferring instead to join those who smugly assert I don't believe that' or the landowner should take care of it . Those of us who have shown interest over the four years know given that the small size of the lots on the interior of town it's only a matter of time before the landowner's options are literally saturated; and it's only prudent to think about doing something while we have the benefit
