Monday, Oct. 9 had been a cold, windy day. Despite the weather and traveling all day Sunday to get there from a weekend soccer tournament in Virginia Beach, Michael played superb. "I was really focused on that first day," he said, "and took my time. Not having played a practice round the day before, the course was new for me and I concentrated on every shot."

The weather got nicer on Tuesday, the second day of the tournament, but Michael's score didn't. Afterward he said, "I was ready to attack that second day, but we had a two hour frost delay at the start and I kind of lost my edge. I went bogey, birdie, bogey, birdie on the first four holes. I couldn't seem to get into a rhythm. After that, things just deteriorated."

Michael finished 29 overall in the State Tournament but was really happy that he had the opportunity to compete. "The whole experience helped me a lot," he said, "Even playing at the District and Regional tournaments was extremely valuable. I can't wait until next year.”
