The Raneys were one of the first Piedmont citizens to believe in the potential for a wine industry in northern Virginia. Raney has set out more 3,000 vines of French-American hybrids. A large and successful fire training school has recently been completed in Rappahannock County. Classes and technical instruction were given at the Amissville fire hall and surrounding grounds for two weekends by 10 instructors certified by the State of Virginia. Ronnie D. Hawkins, a deputy with the Rappahannock Sheriffs Department, has completed basic school at the Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training School at Weyers Cave. The course is for full-time law enforcement officers in Virginia. The graduation was Oct. 17.
