The crown jewel of French films is "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" - a masterpiece of music and romance, starring the 20-year-old Catherine Deneuve in the role that made her an international star. RAAC will show this Cannes Film Festival Grand Prize winner Friday, Oct. 20 at 8 p.m. at The Theatre on Gay Street.

The beautiful Deneuve plays the role of a salesgirl in her widowed mother's umbrella shop who falls in love with Nino Castelnuovo, a handsome garage mechanic who lives with his aged aunt. They are a loving couple but the situation changes after Nino is called up for service in Algeria.
