The Rappahannock County Sheriffs Office is investigating the theft of a John Deere Model 5400 tractor, taken from where it was parked on Rt. 522 last week.
According to the report filed by Sgt. Connie Compton, the tractor, owned by MICA of Virginia, was parked with other pieces of road-maintenance equipment along Rt. 522 two miles from Sperryville on the evening of Oct. 9.
MICA contracts with the Virginia Department of Transportation to perform roadside maintenance work.
The green tractor, which had a mower attached when it was parked for the day, was apparently detached from the mower and loaded on a low-boy trailer and removed.
