What a terrible weekend for racing fans! I am not a NASCAR watcher but I have friends that are and they are all in shock and dismay over the death of Dale Earnhardt. It is very sad that they have now lost a legend. Sympathy is extended to all race fans.
The Amissville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company had its annual awards banquet on Saturday Feb. 16.
Randy Smith was named Firefighter of the year. Donna Hickerson was named E.M.S. person of the year.
Junior Firefighter of the year was Jesse Smith. Junior E.M.S. person of the year was Jessica Haarup.
The Rookie of the year was John Howington.
They have several members that were honored for Years of Service and they are as follows: Sarah Latham 48 years; Jack Atkins 40 years, Sheila Scott, Randy Smith and Adrian Butler 20 years; Sandi Carter and Art Smith for ten years, Jessica Dodson and Jacqueline Miller five years of service.
Life membership pins were given to Sarah Latham, Randy Smith and Adrian Butler for their years of service.
