In preparation for the English trip, Morris said he borrowed some English-style hurdles from Pennsylvania trainer Bruce Miller. Miller is the only U.S. 'chase trainer to win a jumping race in England with an Americantrained horse. He sent Kaye Jeffords' Lonesome Glory to win a novice hurdle race at Cheltenham in the fall of 1992.
English hurdles have a flat face and are set at a 60degree angle. They are meant to be jumped at speed with scarcely a change of pace.
The Cheltenham course is wide and rolling; the long, uphill finish is considered the most testing of challenges for the best jumpers in the world.
