It was the week that Signaled the end of another regular season for one sport and the beginning of a new day in Rappahannock County sports history. As the Bull Run District basketball tournament prepares to commence, the school’s first-year wrestling team is sending five Panther wrestlers to the Region B Wrestling Tournament.
Basketball
It was a one-game week for the RCHS Varsity and Junior Varsity, but it wasn’t a good one. The Panthers finished the regular District season with an away game at Brentsville District High School. The Tigers showed why they are second only to George Mason this year as they dominated the Rapp squad from start to finish in every aspect of the game.
Falling behind 19 to 6 in the first quarter, the Panthers virtually selfdestructed in the second quarter, failing to score a field goal. The half ended with the Tigers on top by the score of 46 to 8.
That hill was too steep to climb and although the Panthers scored 21 points in the fourth quarter, the game ended with Brentsville soundly winning 91 to 33.
The Junior Varsity squad didn’t fare much better as they fell 70 to 33 in their contest.
It was the end of a rough year for the Panthers as they finished the regular District season 2 and 10 for the Varsity and 1 and 11 for the JV squad. The Varsity team will move on and participate in the Bull Run District Tournament commencing Tuesday, Feb. 20.
The Panthers are seeded sixth in the District and will face off against the number three seed Madison County in the quarter final game there.
