Wrestling
The highlight of the sports week was the efforts of 14 Rappahannock County wrestlers at the Bull Run District Tournament. The tournament was held at the Clarke County gym on Saturday, Feb. 17. With a wrestler in each of the 14 weight classes, Head Coach Jim Wells, supported by other members of the team and the families and friends of the Panther wrestlers, headed for unknown territory with their first District tournament.
This is not a sport or District for the weak at heart. You win the Bull Run District as a team, you have an excellent chance of winning everything.
Ask Strasburg and Brentsville High Schools. They won this same Bull Run District Tournament the last two years and they also went on to win the Single A State Tournament for wrestling those same years.
Clarke County was the eventual tournament winner Saturday in a real close team competition. They edged out Brentsville District High School, a 6-time Single A Wrestling State Champion, by the narrow margin of 192
