Hunter pace contestants agree that a steady pace wins the race.
Just ask Rappahannock Hunt's husbandand-wife pair Bob and Julie Williamson — they were the 2000 overall series winners in the competitive optimum time division even though they didn't win a single pace. Their consistency was such that they were second or third in almost every pace they entered last spring, steadily accumulating enough points to gamer the series award sponsored by their own hunt.
And for good measure, their daughter Lindsay won the junior division partnered with Linda Brown, their neighbor in Reva.
"We moved right along (at a good canter) like you would out hunting, we didn't waste any time, but we trotted when we needed to,” explained Julie Williamson, who led the pair on her mare Summertime.
