For series paces with points counting toward year-end awards, entrants must preenter the paces the Monday before, but post entries are often accepted in the open and hilltopper divisions. Horse and rider pairs must stay the same throughout to be eligible for year-end awards — substitutions of either horse or rider mean that pair are treated as a new entity.
