The Good Lord must love fools and surely He suffers them gladly, for He made a whole lot of them, myself included.
I once wandered around the house looking for my glasses while wearing them. One time in Oklahoma I threw a brick at a snake in a tree. The brick bounced off the snake and went through the windshield of my truck. If those two examples aren’t enough to give you the idea, I was once a strong supporter of Bill Clinton. NuflF said?
So, if it takes one to know one, I feel qualified to speak on the subject of fools. My candidate for the fool of the year is State Senator Warren E. Barry (R-Fairfax) whose bill requiring a mandatory Pledge of Allegiance in public schools appears destined to become Virginia law.
When his bill was amended by the House Education Committee so that local school districts would have jurisdiction over how to penalize violators of his law, Barry called its members “spineless pinkos” and found a way around them.
“Sometimes my mouth works faster than my brain”, he said, adding “but I don’t have any apology to make,” thereby proving his first point. My question is whether Mr. Barry’s brain has been working at all.
I spent a lot of years fooling with politics in Georgia, butting heads with world class name callers like Lester Maddox and Newt Gingrich, so it doesn’t surprise me that some bloated self important committee chairman can’t use
