Photos by Richard Lykes PROCESSION: Some 50 members of St. Patrick’s Catholic Mission participated in a religious procession in Little Washington on Sunday that is a long-honored tradition in many countries with Catholic majorities like Mexico, Spain, and Italy. This was a first time event for St. Peters. Heading up the procession shown here gathering on Porter Street were the church’s altar servers and Father DeMartino, - dressed in a flowing gold and red cassock carrying a gilded “monstrance” for this solemn occasion to celebrate the Holy Sacrament. IN PRAYER: Right, in their immediately recognizable blue and white habits of the Order established in India by Mother Teresa, the sisters from the Missionaries of Charity who run orphanages and homes for the ill and homeless in Washington, D.C., were guests on Saturday of Little Washington’s St. Peter’s Catholic Mission. Here two of the nuns appear in the special mass to which they were invited in Pope Benedict XVI’s honor.
