now, now predilection of our nation’s capital, not too far down the road. Like all schoolaged children, and adults for that matter, I looked forward to the next weekend as soon as Sunday night rolled around.
Looking back, I feel I counted the days to the weekend with a different kind of anticipation than that of my classmates. The Friday afternoon bell might just as well have been the buzzer at the gates of the Gold Cup. Escape from elementary school was in full swing and the children were anxious to be free from the clutches of the three R’s.
I, on the other hand, was anxious to be free from the clutches of life in suburbia and free to explore our little piece of Rappahannock for the next two days.
I am sure that not every weekend was spent with my family in Rappahannock County. There were the kids in the neighborhood to play with, and, goodness knows, there was work to be done around the house in Oakton.
But, looking back, it deemed like every weekend was spent in Rappahannock. I
