The Rappahannock County High School girls’ soccer team posted its first win of the season in playoff action, downing Manassas Park, 1-0 on May 24.
Rapp’s Virginia Stickley rebounded in mid-field, kicking the ball into the air. The Cougar’s goalie could not deflect the rebound, allowing the Rapp score in the first half of play. “It was a very intense game,” J. C. Maldonando, Rapp coach, said.
The coach praised several players for outstanding contributions to the team, including Osha Kondori, Caity Waites and Camilla Holte.
“Osha is one of the best players,” Maldonando said, excitedly, “she plays for the people in the stadium. Caity, she is the best, goalie in the district and Camilla runs like she is saying ‘I need to score, I need to score’.”
Rapp went into the second round of tournament action, facing undefeated Clarke County, losing 5-0.
In the first half of play, Waites stopped over 30 goal attempts by the Eagles, and just as many in the second half.
