It was then that Abell and Sheuerlein connected. In her first year as an intern at Waterpenny, Sheuerlein had visited Abell’s property many a time to tend the asparagus beds Abell had signed over to Waterpenny. • “One day I was looking at an iris on Joyce’s property and it suddenly popped open. It was then that I thought this place would be a paradise to five in,” recounted Sheuerlein.
As the old tenant in Abell’s cottage was leaving, Trista decided to make her move and asked Abell if she could rent the small house. Abell agreed and knowing , Trista’s work with Waterpenny had something else in mind. It was not long before the two decided to draw up a contract, allowing Sheuerlein to farm an acre of Abell’s land in return for providing Abell with fresh vegetables and taking care of her and her property.
Peacevine Farm is now budding with life, and Sheuerlein is well into her third season with the farm, this being her second on Abell’s property.
“We meet once a week to talk about priorities,” said Abell. “Because we can communicate, we don’t disappoint each other. Trust is one of the primary things you need to give and get and it has been a beautiful relationship since we have worked it out,” continued
