I exhale a deep breath that I have been holding inside me since the end of my last visit. When I turn onto the Fodderstack Road, I take another deep breath and finally step out of the asthma-like grip the previous work week has held over me.

The Peak is still there, maybe a little greener than the last time I saw it, maybe covered with a dusting of snow, but it’s still there, welcoming me back.

My parents have raised their children, retired and come full circle and are back home in Flint Hill. I remember when they announced they had bought a place and were putting my childhood home on the market. I didn’t blink an eye. This was something I knew had been coming for a long time.

I like the notion of my parents living back in Flint Hill. It fits. One more chapter finished in the book of our family. Everything and everybody has its place and all is where it should be.

That is, of course, except for me.
