School Board
learns about
recruiting

The Rappahannock County School Board was brought up-to-date on several issues at their meeting Tuesday night, including efforts to recruit new teachers, athletic programs, and proposed building projects.
Recruiter Raye Tupper is the person tasked with finding new teachers, and offered insights on how she does her job.
Tupper goes to teacher job fairs where she puts up a tabletop display about Rappahannock County, the people and the schools here for potential hires to look over.
“I felt like I was back in college at the mixers, with all the guys just walking by and looking,” she told the board at Tuesday’s meeting.
Often, Tupper is accompanied by others from the county school system. “It helps to have teachers along, because potential teachers like to have teachers to talk to,” she explained.
Many of those who approach the recruiting team are looking specifically for a small school, “Where they can be a person and not a number,” she added.
