passing cars three times during the trip. He climbed elevations as high as 8200 feet above sea level while he froze in the rarefied air. On top of all that, by the time Parish got to the end of his journey in St. Augustine, Fla. he’d developed a rash on his buttocks.
“It didn’t feel very good,” remembered Parish.
However it felt, Parish and Morency got to St. Augustine on April 9. They had seen a lot, and though according to Parish he was tempted to cycle up to Rappahannock from Florida, he wanted to get home to his wife, who had been watching the farm while Parish was gone.
“I couldn’t have done this without her,” he said.
Now that it’s over, Parish claims that his achievement wasn’t that physically difficult.
“Virtually anybody could do it. Start out slowly, and by the end, it will be easy. If you do nothing but ride a bike all day for weeks, you’ll get pretty good at riding a bike all day,” he explained.
“I loved the heck out of it,” said Parish.
