Merkle worker
Sperryville’s Timothy Hudson poses next to a row of large morel mushrooms, sometimes called “merkles,” that he gathered himself. It is not known if he found the can of Mountain Breeze at the same time, but since it’s only in the picture for scale, we’ll let Mr. Hudson keep some of his secrets. The can of soda is about five inches tall, and some of Hudson’s mushrooms appear to top it by at least an inch, demonstrating that Hudson has made a considerable find. Do you think you can do better? Send in photos of your amazing morel discovery to the Rappahannock News at mtayloe® timespapers.com, and we’ll publish the best. Rappahannock News Staff Photo/Jan Clatterbuck
