Washington Saxophone Quartet

This Saturday, May 13 at 8 p.m. the Theatre at Washington presents a truly eclectic mix of music played by the the Washington Saxophone Quartet.The program is called "The Three B's: Bach, Bernstein, and the Beatles."

Rich Kleinfeldt, speaking for the Quartet, said, “The idea of the ‘three Bs’ in music has been around for a long time and it’s catchy, and predictable. Instead of Bach, Beethoven and Brahms, the Quartet picked Bach, Bernstein and the Beatles, because of their impact on music in our tune.”

For close to thirty years WsaxQ has given recitals, informed concerts, and master classes in the United States, the Caribbean, and China, and on radio and television worldwide.The Quartet draws on a rich repertoire and wealth of experience to reach listeners of every age and background.

The Quartet has travelled far and wide, including a tour in China. (Their most recently released CD is called "Tb China and Bach.") They have appeared on radio and television worldwide, and are heard most frequently playing the theme music to the NPR program "All Things Considered."

Concert audiences are often surprised when they discover they’ve been hearing the Quartet’s music day after day on the radio. And they are just as surprised to find out they have been listening to four saxophones! The instruments are able to evoke the refined sounds of a string quartet, the rich harmonies of an organ prelude, and the excitement of a jazz sax section.
