of the School System announced that four slots for county students had been set aside at at the highly-regarded Mountain Vista Governor’s School.
This special program would put four high schoolers at the Governor’s school half-time, and in RCHS the other half.
But Dr. Chappell announced to the Board on Tuesday night that one of the pupils enrolled at RCHS has decided to opt out of the year-long program, leaving one slot open.
Chappell made it clear that the slot is open to any student who lives in Rappahannock County, whether in public or private school.
The slot is open only until June 1. According to Chappell, after that date passes and it is not filled by a county student, there is a student in another county who is eager to take the space, and the student’s parents are willing to pay the $7, 500 tuition that burdens an out-ofcounty pupil.
A memorial trip
Rappahannock eighth graders will get to take a special trip to the National Air and Space Museum near Dulles Airport in June, and next year’s eighth graders will be able to take the same trip, too.
That’s because the late John Dillon, who died eight years ago, loved flying and airplanes, and was drawn to aircraft museums and history.
The trips have been made possible by his wife, Nancy Dillon, who lives in Washington, who will sponsor the trips each year.
The School Board was told about this unique gift by Mrs. Dillon’s friend, Paige Coombs.
