RCES Band Rated Superior - again ! For the second consecutive year, the RCES band earned a unanimous superior rating from judges in an adjudication in the Richmond area.
SkillsUSA State Champions! Jimmy Williams placed first in the state in the Facilities Maintenance contest. Emily Hilscher placed first in the state in the food and beverage service competition. Emily qualified to compete at the National SkillsUSA conference in Kansas City, Missouri this June. The team of Tim Williams, Brandon Smoot, Brandon Longmire, and Will Dodson placed 2nd in the state in the team-works competition.
Geospatial Technologies Class teams scheduled to make presentations to community groups. RCHS has one of the few GIS/GPS programs in Virginia. In 2004, our school was selected as one of about five pilot sites in the state. In its second year, the class is divided into several teams which Work on community projects. One of the class requirements is that students make public presentaitions about their work. The “Geo-Explorer” team will make a report at the Board of Supervisors meeting at the Rappahannock County Court House on June 5 at 2 p.m. on the project to automate records of Rappahannock County properties in county offices. The team will demonstrate the project using Internet access that will be available in the court room that day.
The two “Rapp-Flow” teams, using data gathered by others, are doing a stream-bank analysis of area rivers. These teams will make their presentations to the Rapp-Flow organization at the Rappahannock County Public Library on May 18. In addition to learning GIS/GPS skills and how to work as members of teams in an academic setting, students are learning the value of serving their community.

• Improve salaries for all employees 3.5 percent + Step, maintain health insurance, pay increased Retirement System premiums; provide restructured coaching and band stipends- $571,873 additional cost.
