The School Board discussed the rough outline of a proposed gift from the Rappahannock County School Sports Association.
The RCSSA offers to erect a locker room building next to the track, on the land behind the band room.
The RCSSA plans several years of seeking donations — amounting to six figure dollars — with the locker rooms followed by a concession stand, press box, bleachers and eventually, fights. But getting the first draft of the gift plan off the ground proved bumpy.
“Suppose fund raising is not successful,” asked Board member Rosa Crocker. “I’m a little leery of (going) full speed ahead.”
The first phase — grading the site and putting up a shell of a building — would require less than $60,000.
Even though Kay Miller of the RCSSA assured the board that nearly half that is in the bank and a loan for the remainder has been given verbal approval, the Board backed away from a decision and voted to authorize further talks between Superintendent Chappell and RCSSA. Those talks are planned for late this week.
