The Three Rivers Health District has an immediate opening for two Environmental Health Specialist supporting Public Health efforts to protect the public & ground water in the On Site Sewage Program. Both of these positions will be based in King William County. Primary duties will be issuing sewage disposal system and well construction permits, conducting on-site soils evaluation and subdivision review, private water well and sewage system inspection, rabies abatement, and marina inspection. In addition, duties include investigation of environmental health complaints through enforcement of Virginia health laws/regulations. Ideal candidate will have knowledge of soil/water characteristics, sewage disposal systems, groundwater protection, and the cause of food /waterborne diseases. Applicants must possess good publicrelations skills, ability to communicate effectively written/verbally with Microsoft application skills. BS in Environmental Health, Biology, Soils, or related science preferred and/or equivalent combination of training/experience considered. Valid current drivers’ license and transportation required with mileage reimbursement. Position requires working outdoors and moderately strenuous physical labor during all seasons. A twelve-month probationary period is required for all new state employees. A National C riminal Background Check is a condition of employment.
