Money stolen

Rappahannock County Elementary School was the scene of a mysterious robbery on the afternoon of Friday, May 5.

It was the last day of the school’s annual Scholastic Book fair, and RCES was crowded with customers buying books. During that period an unknown person made off with the day’s cash take from the book fair.

“It was anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000,” said RCES Principal David Covington.

Proceeds from the book fair are normally split between the school and Scholastic, but Covington expects that all of the School’s remaining earnings form the fair will have to go to the book company.

The Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information about a man seen at the book fair who may be connected to the case. He is described as a short, white male in his 50s or 60s, who is missing a tooth on the bottom row. He was described as “asking odd questions” at the book fair.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to call the RCSO at (540)675-5300.
