Ruby Spicer turns 95
On April 15, the family and friends of Ruby Spicer celebrated her 95th birthday at Bethel Baptist Church in Ruckersville, Va.
Ruby was bom April 12,1911 in Rappahannock County to Herbert and Ida Jenkins.
She has survived the passing of her parents, her sister Sylvia Cloud Armentrout, and four brothers, Raymond, John, Elmer, Gid and Eugene Jenkins.
Additionally, she lost her husband, Marion Spicer, two daughters, Hazel Pote and Joyce Nalls, and one granddaughter, Karen Pote.
Ruby’s children, Marion Coates and her husband, Charlie; Ruth Leach, Tommy Spicer and his wife June; and Carlton Spicer and his wife Sis all shared in the celebration.
Seven of the nine remaining grandchildren and their spouses were also in attendance and ten of her nineteen greatgrandchildren. Her great-great- grandchild was unable to attend.
Also in attendance was a niece that she helped to raise from birth, Audrey Jenkins, and her husband, Medford.
Ruby also helped with the upbringing of Pauline Latham, Audrey’s deceased sister.
Ruby moved in with her daughter Ruth in January 2006. Until that time, she lived in her own home.
She continues to be a blessing to all and attributes her long life to her strong faith in God and healthy living.
